This is a very strange problem that we can't figure out, and of course, since there are two companies involved, all we get is finger pointing.
We use ZENWorks from Novell to roll out applications. We've been using it since Notes 5. The rollout of both the Notes 5 and Notes 6 clients works well with ZENWorks.
ZEN includes a little program that runs in the system tray called NALDesk.exe. It runs at a predetermined time, say every hour, 4 hours, etc., and it confirms that all the applications in your Novell Application profile are correct and updated on your local PC desktop.
Here's the catch. If Notes 5 or Notes 6 is open, when this NALDesk.exe runs, it stalls and never shuts down. We've run tools to see if it's file locks, process locks and can't find anything.
Here's the weird thing we've found. If you use the desktop.dsk interface instead of the Welcome page (bookmark.nsf), the NALDesk runs fine.
If you use the Welcome page (bookmark.nsf) and have your welcome page set on Basic, that runs fine too. If you change it to Basics Plus or another page, it doesn't run!
It seems like Notes is locking some sort of resource at the OS level that this NALDESK.exe needs.
